Backing

I have started working on the backing for my color challenge quilt.  I wanted it bright, colorful and cheery.  I found this happy fabric on the left, "Fly Away" by Amy Schimler for Robert Kaufman, and I'm adding some stars to match the front.

The blog "15 minutes play" is already talking about starting a new challenge, so I need to finish this one!

Late Summer

Last night we had dinner on the balcony of Brockton Villa, the small white bungalow overlooking the ocean.
This was the view from our table, La Jolla Cove Beach.
After dinner we walked along Coast Boulevard and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

Another day in paradise!

Revamped

I first shared this idea back in December, 2010.  I started taking photos of family, friends and neighbors when they were guests at our house.  (Sorry the picture is poor, I had to photograph it off my computer screen.)
Recently, I revamped the collection by placing the photos on a black background, it really makes them pop.
I also have everyone stand in front of my beloved VW Bus print that hangs in my kitchen.  It makes a great focal point and I like it much better than the white wall I started with.  I found this print by artist Norm Daniels at an art fair in San Diego.

This on going project has been a big hit with guests and everyone has been willing to join the collection.

Moo!

When I started making this cow quilt, I knew exactly who would receive it.  "Cowabunga" has a new home with Suzanne, a collector of wonderful cow memorabilia.

This was a really fun quilt to make and I know Suzanne will treasure it.

Vine

You can never have too much lime green in your life and this sweep potato vine is the perfect color.  It's growing in a planter box right outside my kitchen door and really puts a big smile on my face!

Windansea

When my sister hinted that she would like a small beach scene quilt for her birthday, I knew exactly which beach to create.  My family moved just one block from Windansea Beach in La Jolla while I was in junior high school.  This beautiful location is well known for surfers and the palm roofed shack that has stood on the shore since 1946.
My inspiration was a favorite photo I took in 2009 just as the sun was getting ready to set over the shack.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARCIA!

Shore

A few years ago, from a catalog, I ordered a large stretched canvas Giclee print for our living room.  I wasn't really happy with it but hung it anyway, hoping it would grow on me.
Yesterday, I decided to add my own little touch to it.

I painted some acrylics on a piece of mixed media paper and cut out lettering.

Just a little addition, but I'm happier with the print now.

Good Morning

I have been busy, busy, busy making Christmas presents and swap exchange gifts.  So, I have nothing to share except these two charm packs I purchased on sale.  I do admit to a fabric addiction!

The Joy of Kitties

Of our two cats, Red seems to be the one people are most drawn to.  He runs down the hall to greet every visitor, his size sets him apart from most cats, he loves to be petted and he has even appeared in Studios Magazine!
Poi'pu is quicker to get into trouble and usually avoids visitors.  She would make a great hunter and explorer - if she were allowed outside.

People are always surprised to learn these two kitties are litter mates, they are so different in looks and personalities.  They bring joy to our house.

New

For years we have talked about buying a market umbrella.  Yesterday, we finally bought this cheerful new addition for our deck, now we can sit outside in cool comfort.
Also, a farmer's market recently opened near our house, so yesterday we stocked up on some summer fruits and veggies.  We are really happy that we can now purchase locally grown produce so close to home.

One of Many

Like so many quilters, I have several UFO's just waiting to be finished.  Lime greens, blues and purples - perfect colors to remind you of cooler days during the warm summer.

I started this quilt over a year ago and have pulled it out again to get serious about finishing it.  Hopefully, I will share a completed photo soon.
