Watercolor Class - Week 2

Last Tuesday in art class, Jane LaFazio instructed us to divide a page from our journal into 8 separate spaces.  We then painted 4 of the areas using different watercolor techniques:  pencil/ink/watercolor, pencil/watercolor, continual ink line/watercolor and a silhouette using pencil/ink/watercolor.  Tomorrow we will fill in the other 4 spaces with different approaches.

I was very unhappy with one of my little houses so I repainted it, cut each block out and sewed them onto a background - a perfect solution for errors!!

Donated Anvil

Victoria Findlay Wolfe asked readers of her blog to donate a block to be added to a quilt for an ill friend. She asked that everyone use light or medium blue for the background and for everyone to make an anvil pattern.  This quilt is for a gentleman so I chose browns, oranges and blues.

I will send this off to New York today and I wish Victoria's friend a speedy recovery.

Lemons

I have enrolled in another watercolor class with Jane LaFazio.  Last Tuesday was our first class and we will meet for 8 sessions.  Jane gave everyone a lemon.  We were instructed to paint it whole, sliced and could also use it as a stamp.  I added a lemon tree branch to my page for extra color.

I always love taking classes with Jane, she is so talented, fun and makes everyone feel so welcome.

Valentine's Day

I purchased these milagros in Old Town, San Diego.  The center hearts were bright, shiny red and I painted them with gesso and acrylics to achieve the colors I wanted.  The background is a design from Alisa Burke that I downloaded from her site.

Sending everyone Happy Valentine's Day wishes.

Coronado Island

Today, our excursion took us over to Coronado Island.  I took this photo as we drove over the bridge from San Diego.
Our destination was the Coronado Museum of History and Art.   If you grew up in the 50's, you probably remember The Kingston Trio.  The museum is hosting an exhibit on the group because Nick Reynolds (the short one) spent most of his life in Coronado.  They were my favorite singers in high school and I had many of their albums.
We wandered along the main street looking in the quaint shops and then walked around the Hotel del Coronado - always so beautiful.

Lunch at Miguel's Cocina - enjoying the best white sauce ever!!!

Blooming Border

My Story Quilt border is finished!!  It measures 37" square.  Making this was quite an experience, it was very labor intensive - but I loved every minute (hour) put into it.  Now it's time for the center, lots of ideas floating in my head. . .

Exploding Star

This is the Lucky Stars Block of the Month for February.  I managed to finish it this weekend squeezed in with the Super Bowl, Downton Abbey, gardening and those household chores that seem to get in the way of sewing!!
I even made the 6 1/2" version!!
This project is turning out to be really fun and I'm looking forward to a new pattern every month for the whole year.

February

February, the month of anniversaries, Valentine's Day, love and chocolates!!  I finished my calendar pages and the days are waiting to be filled with special occasions.
I chose red, pink, light blue and gold acrylics for my background and added matching scrapbook paper.  The days were drawn with ink using a template I cut from cardboard.
Tiny heart shaped brads highlight our wedding anniversary and Valentine's Day.

HAPPY FEBRUARY!!
