I Should Have Bought Two

I bought a little kitty bed for Poipu, she barely fits in it.
I should have known that Red would squeeze his big, fluffy 18 lb. body into the bed.  Now they fight over it.

Those silly kitties!!!

The Flower Fields

Located on over 50 acres, The Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California grow over 1 million giant ranunculus blubs.  The ribbons of colors can be seen from the freeway and for a small fee, people can walk through the spectatular fields of beauty.
We spent our Thursday Journey walking along the rows and rows of blooming flowers on a perfect sunny day, it was quite a sight to see.

The Liebster Award

Liebster is a German word meaning Beloved, Dearest or Favorite.  The Liebster Blog Award is for bloggers who inspire you and have less than 200 followers.

I received a nomination from Pam at artofbeing-pamela.blogspot.com  What a nice surprise from someone who has become a wonderful blog friend and inspires me with her creations and artful life.

As part of the tradition of the award, it is passed forward to 5 bloggers who have motivated and inspired you.

To accept the award, you must:
1.  Link back to the person who gave it to you and thank them.
2.  Post the award on your blog.
3.  Give the award to 5 bloggers with less than 200 followers that you appreicate and value.
4.  Leave a comment on the 5 blogs to let them know that they have been offered this award.

There are so many wonderful blogs, it was really hard for me to select just 5.

kellygirlquilts.blogspot.com  Who wouldn't fall in love with the colorful quilts Kathy shares on her blog.  She is a very talented quilter and a generous blog friend.  I can't wait to see her next creation.

kjohnsonart.blogspot.com  Kathy creates the most beautiful art and has appeared in Cloth Paper Scissors Magazine several times.  Her mixed media creations and quilts are an inspiration to all artists.

mareermareer.blogspot.com  As a quilter and photographer, Mareenz blog is a joy to see.  Her photos are beautiful as she shares her travels and family life.  Her quilts are fun, colorful and beautifully made.

mcreatesdaily.blogspot.com  I was fortunate to have Marlynne as a swap partner last year.  Her folk art includes quilts, painting and many handcrafted delights.  She fills her blog with art projects that are thoughtful and very creative.

wastelandwallowing.blogspot.com  As a busy school teacher, Nathalie still finds the time to create beautiful quilts and organize swaps.  Her blog is always so fun to read as she shares her life in Texas and her creative pursuits.

Thank you Pam for this award and thank you bloggers for sharing your art.

Noodle Bowl

Using a package of ramen noodle soup, mix flavor packet with 2 C water and 1 chopped green onion.  Bring to a boil then add noodles and 1/2 C fresh snow peas.  Cook 1 minute, add about 6/8 cleaned raw shrimp and cook 2 more minutes.  Ladle into 2 bowls and top with shredded napa cabbage and chopped peanuts.

Really good and way too easy!!!

Tight Squeeze

The Mira Mesa College Guitar Ensemble is having a practice in our tiny living room today.  Lucky me, while I sew in the next room, I'm entertained by 16 classical guitarists playing beautiful music.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Train Trip

For our visit to Los Angeles last week, we took the AmTrak from the Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego.  The depot is surrounded by skyscrapers and modern buildings but it has kept it's old Spanish design and charm.
The walls of the depot are all tiled in beautiful colors and designs.
I hung the prayer flags outside on the deck right over the koi pond at Parris's house.

Parris is doing great, he was released just 3 days after his surgery and is very happy to be home.
Thank you for your kind thoughts.

For Parris

Our daughter's boyfriend, Parris, is scheduled for major surgery today.  Inspired by an article in "Cloth Paper Scissors" by Jane LaFazio, I created these prayer flags for him.

My husband and I will travel to Los Angeles tomorrow to spend a few days as he starts his road to recovery.

Get well soon Parris!!

For Chelsea

Last Saturday my husband, our friend Michelle and I participated again in the 2nd annual "Finish Chelsea's Run" 5K run/walk race in Balboa Park.
We joined over 6000 people on a beautiful, sunny morning to honor Chelsea King.
This year, our race bibs are made out of seed-paper and everyone is encouraged to plant them.  In a few weeks, beautiful wild flowers will grow in a wonderful rememberance of Chelsea.

Beads Galore

Adding beads to your art really makes the designs and colors pop out.  I have added beads to quilts, collages, paintings and clothing.
But this beaded work of art takes the prize!!  This old Volkswagon Bug is covered with 2,277,000 glass beads.  Vochol: Huichol Art on Wheels is currently on display at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park.  It took 2 years to complete and is a  wonderful example of Mexican pop art.
On our Thursday journey, we also attended an exhibit of artifacts from the Titanic being held at the San Diego Natural History Museum.  It was fascinating to see items recovered from the ship and to learn about the passengers and crew members who were on the fateful cruise.
